Fencing Coach Neil Lazar passed away February 4th, 2012. A life-long fencer, he first picked up a sword in New York City. As a competitive fencer he was nationally ranked in all three weapons. As a coach teaching in Salle Santelli he trained numerous fencers of all levels including 1968 Olympian Uriah Jones. When Neil retired to Owego he stayed active fencing and coaching at the local clubs including the IBM County Club, Binghamton University, and of course, our club. In 2001 he was inducted into the US Fencing Hall of Fame. Neil had a tremendous impact on countless fencers, both inside and outside of the fencing club. He will be greatly missed.
